THE KAIKORAI VALLEY ROAD
TO THE EDITOR' Sir,—How much longer have the residents of Kaikorai to wait for the completion of the widening of the Kaikorai Valley road? This has been talked of for the last 25 years, but the width of the road remains the same now as it was then. In its present state it is one of the most dangerous thoroughfares in or around Dunedin. There have been numerous motor accidents on it, attributable solely to the narrowness of the road, and there will be more if something is not done to widen it. I understand that a sum of money was set aside some time ago for the purpose of widening the most dangerous portion of the road. Is it too much to ask of the Mayor and council that a start be made immediately by utilising unemployed men at standard rates of pay? • One would also be interested to know whether the Health Department considers it desirable that a retailer of goods for human consumption should carry on his business in a building of which the greater part has been gutted by nre and remains in that condition at present. —-I am, etc., Blue and Black. Dunedin. June 26.
