RETURNED SOLDIERS

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Duucdin Returned Soldiers' Association was held last evening, there being present Messrs A. S. Falconer (president), W. F. Forrester, J. S. Skinner, A. Thomas, A. Duncan, G. Ferens, A. J. Gordon, C, L. Calvert, J. M. White, and N. R. Wilson. The Finance Committee's report, which was submitted by Mr Thomas, stated, inter alia, that a contribution to the association's funds amounting to £lO 2s 6d, the proceeds of a weight-guessing competition, had been made by Mr G. J. Barton. —It was decided to thank Mr Barton for his donation. Ten nominations for membership and one nomination for honorary membership were approved, and two transfers, one inward and the other outward, were granted. The Publicity Committee recommended that a competition for original stories and articles of interest to returned soldiers be instituted, and that the articles be published in the association's weekly column.—The recommendation was adopted. The report of the Social Committee with reference to the forthcoming community sings was presented by Mr Duncan, who said that the arrangements for the sings were well in hand, and some excellent programmes had been arranged by the leader (Mr A. Macdonald). It was decided that the secretary or the assistant-secretary should visit the Public Hospital at least once a fortnight and Montecillo Home once a month. The membership campaign figures disclosed that the Dunedin membership to date was 1395, and that of Christchurch 1198. The chairman announced that a large number of communications had been received from country sub-associations expressing the undivided opinion that Anzac Day should not be interfered with, and that its observance in the fuhre should remain as in the past.
