TOTAL LOSS PROBABLE CREW'S TRYING EXPERIENCE (Pee United Press Association) WHANGAREI, June 25. The 10-ton ketch Mihongi, owned by Mr S. Atkinson, of Auckland, was driven ashore in Ahipara Bay this morning and is likelv to become a total loss, lhe crew, consisting of Messrs J. W. Wray (skipper) and D. Wellington, left the ketch safely. The ketch left Hokianga ballasted witn sand on Sunday afternoon, and had trouble in clearing the bar. Cape. Maria Van Diemen was reached last evening, but the crew was unable to get the craft round and the weather forced it out to sea. The wind increased in violence and the boat moved up and down off Ninety Mile Beach all night. The crew was kept busy baling and had a perilous and distressing time. At daybreak they were outside Reef Point and ran for the most sheltered place in Ahipara Bay. The waves were breaking right over the Mihongi as she moved towards the beach broadside on, and she came ashore opposite Miss Reed's accommodation house. The men were provided with refreshments and dry clothing by Miss Reed, and despite their trying experience suffered no physical harm and were quite cheerful. .
