RED CROSS SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Red Cross Society was attended by the Rev. V. G. Bryan King (in the chair), Misa Rattray, Mrs Sydney Neill, Miss Graham, Messrs J. G. Jeffery, A. N. Haggitt and J. W. Smeaton. "A letter was received from the Hospital Board acknowledging the society's interest in the sojdier patients at Wakari Hospital. The board appreciated the regular visiting of Jhe institution by the society's representatives, and the gifts taken up to the men. A letter was received from an exsoldier thanking the society for some clothing supplied. Several applications for assistance were dealt with. Miss Graham mentioned the case of an ex-sei-vice man who was at present laid up. and suggested a little help for his family. This was agreed to. Mr Jeffery referred to certain cases of sickness whij;h he had discussed with the Returned Soldiers' Association. In regard to these cases the Red Cross had shouldered full responsibility, and that meant no small outlay. It waj considered likely that from a certain source the society would be partly recouped. Mr Jeffery was thanked for going into the matter. Mrs Neill and Miss Graham furnished a satisfactory report for the hospital visitors. All the soldier patients were in good spirits, and, generally speaking, were responding well to treatment received. There were five men at Wakari and about 18 nt the Dunedin Hospital. The matron at the Montecillo home submitted a report to the satisfaction of the committee. During the month two patients had been admitted and, two discharged. The number at present receiving treatment was 20. The Montecillo Committee supplemented the matron's report. Several matters affecting the home were discussed, and instructions were given to the committee to enable these to be brought to completion.
