On the last day of the sale, which was to extend over eight days, the 6hip's name on the port and starboard bows was to be offered in lots. It %vas reported that long before the sale an offer had been made for the lettering on the bows, and it worked out at £25 a letter. Among the lots which it was expected would be eagerly sought by souvenir hunters were the steering wheel in the aft wheelhouse, two ship's syrens, a marine telescope, a pair of binoculars, a Cunard house flag, and a set of international flags in a teak locker. The ship's rafts and lifeboats were also to be offered, as well as the valuable panelling and woodwork, familiar to the thousands of passengers who had travelled in the famous old ship.
