Mr Robert Gilkison, of Dunedin, has been in London for a fortnight (says our London correspondent, writing on June 8), and is about to leave for a short tour in Belgium and Northern France with his sister, Mrs D. M'Donald. Later, he will tour in Scotland and renew acquaintance with many old friends. He hopes to cover on foot many of the less frequented parts of the Highlands, aB he is very fond or tramping. Mr Gilkison will return to New Zealand via South Africa, where he hopes to spend a few weeks.

Dr G. H. Scholefield has returned from Spain (says our London correspondent, writing on June 8). where he attended the quinquennial conference of the International Federation of Libraries, which was held under the auspices of the League of Nations. Conference meetings, which extended over a fortnight, were held in Madrid, Seville. Salamanca, and Barcelona, and were attended by a very repre eentative gathering of librarians from Fritain and most of the European countries (including Russia, the United States, Canada, and South America). Dr WW. Bishop, principal of the Library School at the University of Michigan, was president and Dr Sevensma, librarian of the League of Nations, acted as organiser. The proceedings were opened by the President of Spain, and the delegates were the gueste of the Spanish Government and various municipalities in all of the towns visited. While in Barcelona, Dr Scholefield attended the annual conference of the International P. E. N. Club (of which he is the New Zealand president). Mr H. E. Wells is international president. Since returning to London at the beginning of the week, Dr Scholefield has been attending an important conference on Collective Security under the auspices of the International Institute of Intellectual Co-opera-tion, of which the Institute of Pacific Relations is the functioning body in New Zealand. .
