PETROL FROM COAL
BRITISH UNIT PRODUCING. The first hydrogenation unit for producing petrol from coal at the works of Imperial Chemical Industries at Bill-ingham-on-Tees, England, has begun operations. The enterprise has been seven years in the making, and is the result of intensive research and experiment, followed by organised effort of a high order, a London journal comments.. The first unit is producing petrol from creosote, but others to follow soon will convert it direct from coal. The output will be increased steadily as the year proceeds, and when full capacity is reached it will amount to 100,000 tons ot petrol a year, consuming some 800,000 tons of coal in the process. Already a market has boon secured for all the petrol to be produced this year.
