KING'S SILVER JUBILEE

SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES MEET A meeting of representatives of all primary, post-primary, and private schools in Dunedin was held yesterday to consider the Government's proposal to mark the occasion of the King's silver jubilee in the minds of the children by some form of entertainment. As a result of the discussion, the following telegram was forwarded to the Minister of Education (Mr S. G. Smith) and to the Director of Education: — "King's Silver Jubilee: Meeting ol representatives of all post-primary, primary, and private schools in Dunedin held to-day unanimously passed a resolution asking the Government to ,-pprove of the grant" for entertaining school children being expended on something that would permanently commemorate the occasion, such as wall pictures, library books, music, wireless set, etc., and that a suitable ceremony or entertainment be arranged at which same would be dedicated. Glad of early reply.—J. Wallace, covener of meeting." The meeting also considered whether there should be a combined effort in conjunction with the civic authorities or whether each school should be left to make its own plans. The decision arrived at was that the post-primary and private schools should be left to make whatever arrangements they thought fit and that the matter of entertaining the primary school children should be left to the individual schools.
