THE OTAUTAU MEETING
(Special to Daily Times) INVERCARGILL, April 11. Looked upon as a curtain-raiser for the Riverton meeting, the Otautau meeting on Saturday is attracting a good deal of interest. The current weather conditions have been all against fast times on the tracks, but the majority of horses are well forward for their engagements. Both here and at Riverton a good deal of schooling hag been going on over the big fences. While Royal Limond is quartered at Otautau, the other Riccarton fencer. Arcade, is reported to have gone amiss, hence his defection from Riverton. The fields at Otautau are large, and the winners look hard to select. The place machine will probably find a lot of favour. It is stated that L, J. Ellis will ride at Riverton on the first day and will then go to Riccarton. G. Feilding is now at Riverton with Royal Pal and Ramo. Vcnite gave First Song and Cough a trouncing this morning over a mile, and is sure to run well in the Otautau Cup. Silver Dart is well at present, and should race prominently at the first outing. The yielding tracks are in favour of Double Shot, which is now almost at his best. His stable mate, Toreador, has also done well. Taurnmai is stated to be in tip-top condition. His pilot in the Great Autumn Handicap will be L. J. Ellis, and be is sure to be hard to beat.
