THE PUBLIC ACCOUNTS
A SUBSTANTIAL SURPLUS TREASURY BENEFITS BY WINDFALLS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 10. The Minister of Finance (Mr J. G. Coates) stated to-day at the opening of the Prudential Building that the outcome of last year’s Budget was very satisfactory. Mostly due to receipts in the nature of windfalls, which would not recur, the year had closed with a substantial surplus, which had materially reduced the accumulated deficits carried forward for the years 1931-32 and 1933-34. He regretted that he was unable to announce any figures of revenue and expenditure at present as the clearing of transactions for the year through the books of the Treasury had not yet been completed. When this work was finished the accounts had to be audited. *
