PORT CHALMERS NEWS

BOYS’ BRIGADE A concert in aid of the funds of the Port Chalmers Boys’ Brigade was given in the Presbyterian Church Hall on Tuesday evening before a large audience. The Rev. Gilman Dunn presided and thanked the audience for its interest in the work of the brigade. The boys were present in uniform and under the charge of Captain Begbie. The first part of the programme was provided by artists from Dunedin, who were all recalled several times. They were Miss M'Kenzic. Mr Alexander Snell, Mr John Kennedy, and Mr George Currie. They were assisted in this part by Miss Irene Farquharson (soloist) and Mr Roy Mathicson (cornetist). This was Mr Mathieson’s first public appearance in Port Chalmers, and the audience was delighted with his fine renderings. The second part of the programme comprised items by members of the Bible classes of the church, sea chanties, and part songs, a humorous trio, dance items by Miss Beth Johnston and Miss Bessie Neill, pianoforte solo ,y Mr Jack Ellis, duet by Miss Farquharson and Miss Boyes, and a one-act play, “ The Family Group,” which was amusingly portrayed by a group of Bible class members. A vote of thanks to all who had assisted with the programme, and in particular to Mrs ,T. W. Johnston, Miss J. Jackson, and Miss Simpson for invaluable help in organising the concert, and to Miss Florence Farquharson and Miss Mathieson for acting as accompanists, was carried on the motion of Mr A. W. Chisholm.
