CAR FORCED OFF ROAD

ACCIDENT AT MOUNT CARGILL An accident which, fortunately, was not attended by serious consequences, occurred about 5.30 last evening on the Mount Cargill road. Mr H. R. J. Brien, an employee at the Seacliff Mental Hospital, was driving to Dunedin in his car, and when about one mile north of the Brown House he suddenly saw a lorry approaching round the corner from the opposite direction. He swerved to avoid a collision, and drove over the bank, where the car struck a red signpost and knocked out two fence posts. This, however, broke the force of the fall, and saved the ear from plunging down the steep hillside. Mr Brien was unhurt. The driver of the lorry did not stop.
