AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Automobile Association of Otago was held last evening, and was attended by Messrs F. J. Williams (chairmanV, E. J. Anderson, J. L. Passmore, H. S. Reid. C. H. Bingham, W. J. M'lnnes, P. W, Curtis, W. Hudson, T. Y. Turner, P. W. Breen, A. 0. Davies. C W. Sundstrum, E. W. G. H. Watts, and H. H. Henderson. A complaint was received regarding the bad corner at Bunting's store, Wakari. —lt was decided to take steps to have the conditions improved. The secretary submitted the names of 21 new members, who were duly elected by the meeting. It was reported that there had been 22 resignations during the past month.—Received. Mr R. H. Nesbitt, Australian Trade Commissioner, wrote expressing appreciation of the efforts of the association to assist him in his work during liis recent visit to Dunedin. He assured the association of his willingness to be of service in any possible manner.—Received. The South Island Motor Union advised that the half-yearly meeting of the Executive Committee would be held in Oamaru on March 29.—The chairman and Messrs Reid, Passmore, and Anderson were appointed to represent the association. The chairman reported on the arrangements for the annual outing for orphans, to be held on Saturday at Wingatui.— Final arrangements were left in the hands of Mr Watts and the secretary. The Sports Committee reported that the hill climbs held at Bethune's Gully had been very successful, about 2000 people had watched the sports.—Received. Accounts amounting to £2B 19s 5d were passed for payment. Mr Reid reported as follows on the road service:—The service has now been in operation for six months and the number of members serviced has been 47, at a total cost of £37 17s 6d, and an average of 16s Id per service. It is recommended that the following accounts be passed for payment:—Automobile Association (South Canterbury), 17s; Owaka Motors, £1 2s; Automobile Association (Canterbury), 2s 9d; Bell and Pfingle, 14s 9d; Mosgiel ! Motors, Ltd., ISs; Automobile Association (Nelson), 7s 6d: Automobile Association . (Canterbury), 10s Bd;—a total of £4 12s Bd. The committee is of the opinion that several matters of interest to the Road Service Committee should be discussed at the quarterly meeting of delegates. —The report was adopted. Mr Davies reported as follows on road signs:—The following signs have been erected: Two "School" signs at Forbury road; one "Danger—reduce speed' at Balclutha: one "You have been warned'' at Balclutha. Signs authorised for Hillend district have been delivered to the Bruce County for erection. —The report was adopted. The Camp Committee reported that a large number of visitors had used the camp and some had expressed the opinion that it ranked as one of the best motor camps in New Zealand.—Adopted. Mr Sundstrum reported on his observations of traffic control in Sydney, and said that, compared with that of the Australian city, Dunedin's parking problem was insignificant.—Mr Sundstrum was thanked for his report.
