TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel. Sapling Stakes Candidate G. M'Kendry has a Sapling Stakes candidate by Truman Direct from a Logan Pointer mare. Prairie King in Work Prairie Kin? is back atrain with F. G. Holmes after having a long spell. He looks big and burly, and it will be some time before he is at his best. Paragon Likely to Stay Somehow, Paragon is not an impressive pacer, but there is no doubt that lie has a fair share of ability. His track work suggests that he will get a useful two miles later on. In Fine Condition No horse at Addington is enjoying life more at the present moment than Indianapolis, and he looks wonderfully weik

[He is full of play. His spell did him | the world of good; and he "will soon be ' ready to . face all corner^; Expectations Not Realised' Cruiser, one of 0. E. Hqoper'sr team, has enjoyed a reputation for some time, but in his few outings he has failed to run up to expectations. A four-year-old by Man-o'-War from Ada/Bell, Cruiser may be suited with more time*._•-.._ v ? - ; ;;;i.y. John Nobie * :;r\x:H^ :V V. Since John Noble rqturn^a;.,to . the. tracks he .has had one or two races without showing any of his old form. At"hW best, he was a good sprinter, but there cannot be a great deal'more in store for him. •'-'.- Retains His Speed John Jinks paced the fastest mile and a-quarter at Washdyke on Saturday, and was putting in his best work at the finish. The half-brother to Author Jinks, who is now in M. C.M'Tigue's stable inthe Methyen district, has lost none of his speed. „'.,:■":,%. .;-''•":■ N . > -. ;■-■-■ • - Prospects of -.Early;.' Win Queen':Authqr;;pac£d. a good race after getting away badly in the Timaru Trotting Cup. ' ' She battled her way through the field and was sixth with a round to go. She stuck -to her work and was fifth at the winning post. With a quick beginning she should soon win a race. Trotter Among Pacers CarL continues to please in his track work, but it seems, that he will need a deal of racing to bring him back to his best. He has been handled in a patient manner, which should bear good resuts when he .finds' classes to suit him. At Cheviot be clainig an engagement among the pacers. /;': vC,..,. A Pleasing Performance The three-year-old gelding Graham Direct had the services of F. Holmes in the Seadown Handicap at Timaru on Saturday, and he gave a pleasing performance. He conceded a field of 10 horses up to 24yds, and beat all but Big Author. Graham Direct began correctly but 6lowly, and had a lot of ground to niake up over the last five furlongs. He is a game horse, and is destined to win races. - - A Well-earned Spell Two of F. J. Smith's best stake earners during the last two seasons, namely, Worthy Light and Nell Vplo, are now enjoying a well-earned spell in abundant pasture at Waiuku. Worthy Light, who commenced racing only at the Auckland winter meeting in 1933, when he registered two of his few unplaced performances, has had a remarkable career, and goes into retirement after contesting 27 races with a fine record of 18 firsts, one second, and two thirds, for total earnings of just over 13000. Worthy Light Has won over all distances and in various parts of the Dominion, including Addington, Wellington, Wanganui, Hawera, and Thames, while he'was 13 times successful at Epsom, his most performances being "his second to Boi I'Or in the Royal Trotting Cup in 4min 19 3-sscc and his victory in the President's/Handicap in 4min 19sec. By the latter success Worthy Light reached the 4min 26sec limit of the New Zealand Trotting Cup. but this was altered to 4min 25sec when he won at his last start. Being still young, Worthy Light, who will no doubt derive a great deal of benefit from the holiday, shoulj next season rise greater heights. Nell Volo, one of the best trotters- in the Dominion, has given Auckland trotting patrons many thrills, but she has also won races at Addington, Wanganui, Hawera, and Hamilton. It is a tribute to her ability and courage that, although on several occasions she has been troubled with soreness, she has always given the best she possesses, and while she: enters upon her holiday with a defeat against her at her last start, when she failed to concede the very solid Parrish Belle 108yds, she was just as great in defeat as in victory, and put up the. fine run of 4min 23sec from post to post.
