ST. CLAIR CARNIVAL
elySaturday afternoon and evening the St. Clair carnival will be presented for the last'time. The committee' will give an open reception to the St. Hilda Band, which will make its first public appearance since it won th New Zealand Championship in Timaru last week. It will render a musical programme; during the evening, and will be seen in the quickstep on the Esplanade. Further, the three Otago swimmers who won' New Zealand championship honours in Auckland will be given a welcome back, together with the St. Clair Life Saving teams, who acquitted themselves so well at New Plymouth last week. In two days last week 14,000 people visited the carnival, which, in itself, .is an indication that the public is eager to assist the Beach Improvement Society. Saturday afternoon will be devoted to children’s games and competitions on the beach, including another treasure hunt and a sand modelling competition. Thomson’s ponies will also appear, and the Whippet Kacing Club will hold a race meeting. An augmented tram service will be run to cater for the crowds.
