CRASH THROUGH FUMES
FIRE OFFICER INJURED LONDON, February 24. (Received Feb. 25, at 1.30 a.m.) Fire Officer Latnan was standing perilously on the roof of a blazing factory at Moorgate last night when the tiles fell in and Latnan dropped 70 feet down a lift shaft, crashing through the charred lift, which was in the basement. Fireman Kelly donned a gas mask and respirator and descended by a rope. He tied the rope round Latnan, who was hauled up. The rope was thrown back to Kelly, who tied it to himself before collapsing. He was hauled up unconscious. Latnan is seriously ill in hospital. The fire illuminated the whole city area and endangered many factories.
