THEATRICAL DISPUTE
ARTISTS AND MANAGERS LONDON, February 22. The " theatrical war " has broken out afresh following Equity instructing its members not to sign contracts offered for Mr C. B. Cochran's forthcoming new production, "Mesmer," a play by Mr Beverley Nichols. "I do not recognise Equity's rights to dictate contracts," gays Mr Cochran. " I have two other plays ready for production. If I cannot get artists on my own contracts, I shall simply cease producing." Equity's secretary (Mr Wall) declares that Mr Cochran is defying the agreed standard contract for London theatres.
A message received on February 17 'stated: The dispute between British artists and theatre managers has been settled by the establishment of a London Theatre Council composed of 10 representatives from both managers and artists under an independent chairman nominated by the Minister of Labour.
