Approached by a Singapore moneylender demanding repayment of a loan, a Chinese carpenter named Leug Check expressed his willingness to pay, and asked for his promissory note. Immediately it was handec to him he is alleged to have torn it in half and swallowed the pieces. He was taken to hospital and an unsuccessful attempt was made to recover the paper. Leng now faces a charge of destroying a valuable security.
