WAIWERA SPORTS
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING The Waiwera sports, held on the cricket ground, were fairly well attended, people coming from all the surrounding countryside. Some good running was eeen and the closeness of the finishes reflected credit on the handicappers (Messrs A. Broad and W. Taylor). Mr D. M'Kenzie acted as starter and got his fields away in good order. The bushcraft events supervised, by Mr Colin Stuart, created a lot of interest. The following are the results:—
Members' Race: H. Robertson 1, C. Grant 2. Youths' Handicap :.R. Roy 1, W. Megget 2. 75 Yards, Open: First heat—Grogan 1, Ballantyne 2. Second heat —M'Nee 1, L. Dunn 2. Final—L. Dunn and Ballantyne tied for first place. High Jump: Milne 1. M. Cross 2. Young Ladies' Race: Miss M'Gillivray 1, Miss Carruthers 2. Waiwera Handicap: Ballantyne 1, Doak 2, M'Nee and H. Dunn (equal) 3. 14-inch Sawing: C. Stuart and H. Roxburgh 1, J. Stuart and M'Nee 2. Motor Cycle Race: A. Holden 1, R. Pannett 2. Polo Race: M. Cross 1, D. M'Callum 2. 220 Yards Handicap: H. Dunn 1, C. Doak 2. Long Jump: C. Doak 1, R. Roy 2. 14-inch Chop: J. Roxburgh 1, H. Roxburgh 2. Rescue Race: M. Cross 1. 440 Yards Handicap: J. Stuart 1. C. Doak 2. Stepping Distance: A. Carruthers. W. Nicol, and E. Gent tied. Throwing at Wicket: A. Houliston 1. Hop, Step, and Leap: H. Dunn I. N. Neale 2. Sheep Guessing: A. W. Pannett and N. Ross tied. A number of children's races were held under the direction of Mr J. Fyfe. In the evening a dance was held in the hall.
