RAGWORT, MAGPIE MOTH, GROUNDSEL

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —There is a lot of ragwort in gome of the paddocks in Clutha district, and it is in full bloom, and vigorous looking. It would be a good idea to introduce the magpie moth here. Once, near the head of Gabriel's Gully, I saw about 100 magpie grubs on the march looking for more suitable feed. These grubs luxuriate on groundsel as well. This plant has a slightly pungent smell if bruised. Once I saw a strip of groundsel alongside and when the groundsel was ea'ten Out the grubs ate the strip of turnips adjoining.—l am, etc., Richard Norman. February 22.
