Stock Exchange during the past ■week, banking shares being particularly active, while other sound investment securities were also in steady demand.: ■ * *, ; ' ; BANKING. Bank of New South .Wales shares were disposed of at £3O, cum dividend, the < market closing with a buyer at the same figure and no sellers forward. Business was done in Bank of New Zealandu at £2 9s Odand £2 9s 3d, the dosing buying and selling quotations being £2 9s and £2 9s 9d respectively. The long D shares were'also the subject of business at £1 12s and fl lls 9d. a final. seller at fl ,12s failing to attract further buyers. National Bank of New Zealands found a buyer at £3 10s, the market closing with a seller at £3 lls and no buyers forward. A sale of Reserve. Banks was .recorded at £6 9s 9d, buyers’ final .offer of £6 9s being 2s below sellers’ requirements. Union Banka were bn offer at £8 15s at the end of the week, but buyers were not prepared to give more than £8 10s. A sale at £8 lls 5d was reported. ' * • • INSURANCE. ; ■ . ; f: Standard Insurances changed hands at £3 12s 6d during the week, the' market closing with a seller at £3 13s and no i; buyers offering. 1 ’ MEAT PRESERVING: There was an easier inquiry for paidup New Zealand Refrigeratings, buyers’ best offer at the end of the period being 19s. Sellers, however, required 19s 7d. The contributing issue was dealt in at 9s 3d. 9s Id. and 9s l}d, sellers’ final, requirement "remaining at the first figure, while buyers would not give more than 9s. ■ . LOAN AND AGENCY. v Wright, Stephenson preference. shares, were the. subject of business at fl, the market closing with buyers offering 19s ; lid and sellers asking £1 ‘os Id, - substantially the same prices as those ruling last week.- - - V-' COAL. ' . v There was - little change in Kaitangata Coals, buyers offering 19s 4d in response - to sellers’ request for £l. Business was done at 19s . 6d. ' , MISCELLANEOUS. Associated News shares were offered for sale at the slightly easier price of fl 3s, but sellers Were .hot interested/ ' Broken Hill Proprietaries- were inquired for at £2 10s, but sellers would not take less than £2 12s. A transaction at £2 10s 3d was recorded earlier in the week. Dominion Fertilisers met with’a slightly firmer demand, buyers’ closing offer being fl Is 6d, while sellers required fl Is Bd. Business at £1 Is 7d and £1 Is 8d was recorded. The debenture issue was also dealt in at £lO5, buyers’ closing offer remaining unchanged at £lO4. New Zealand Farmers’ Fertilisers were the subject of business at 18s 9d, but these shares were not quoted towards the. end of the period. New Zealand Drugs were inquired for at £3 18s, but sellers remained firm at £4. Wilsons Cements met with a slightly easier demand, buyers offering £1 13s. Sellers, however, required £1 14s 2d. Business was done in Woolworths (Sydney) shares at £4 13s 6d, the- closing buying and selling quotations being £4 lls and £4 13s respectively. ; breweries; There was an easier market for New Zealand Breweries at the end of, the week, buyers offering £2- 9s 6d. Two sales at £2 10s 6d were recorded earlier in the period. ■ ' • MINING. There was little activity in mining shares during the week. Gillespie’s Beach shares were disposed of at Is 7d, a finkl seller at . the same figure being unanswered. Golden Sands shares were offered for sale at 2s 9d, but buyers were not interested.-V The, market for Nqkomais showed an improvement during the past few days, buyers offering 2s 4d, while sellers asked; 2s 9d. Sales at 2s and 2s 4d-were recorded. Waihis were inquired for at £2 0s 3d, but sellers did not come forward. • GOVERNMENT LOANS. There was a steady demand for Government Loans, but sellers were few. Three and three-quarter per cent. Stocks, 1941, were disposed of at £lO2, 4 per cent. Bonds, 1945, changed hands at £IOB, and 4 per cent. Bonds, 1955, found a buyer at £lO9 12s 6d. - \
