SAINT GEORGE’S CHAPEL

Few people who visit Windsor Castle and admire the beauty of St. George’s Chapel are aware that the Dean and Chapter are facing a financial crisis. The income, which was fixed nearly 600 years ago, is not nearly enough in these days to meet working expenses. Some time back the Duke of Somerset and some friends formed an association of descendants of the Knight’s of the Garter for the purpose of raising funds, and this society has recently been amalgamated with the friends of St. George’s. More than 300 descendants ha’ve promised a mimimum of five shillings a year toward the maintenance of the famous horse-shoe cloister, the two other cloisters behind the chapel, and for the restoration of the other buildings of the Dean and Chapter. The society of descendants in America is also endeavouring to raise funds for these famous and historic edifices.
