TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel. .

The Slow Class • A certainty to win a slow class race at; Gore- would have to step about 20 •seconds or- more' than' the front mark.' A. Blue Roan Blue Spark showed speed in patches at Gore, but is inclined to leave his feet. He is a nice mover, when in action and in ay ( win in the near future, Worthy of Note • Embark and Ready Money were both, travelling like possibilities when Single Lee upset things at the home turn' in the Progressive Trot. They should be worthy of note for the future , Gold .Salute’s Solid Race Gold Salute ran a solid .race in the Riversdale Trot. He .lost. a. good’deal of ground at the start, but made it up and reached the front at the end of half a mile. He was then steadied and’kept waiting with Sir Gowan, and in the running home looked a winner, but finally failed to stall off Royal Guy, who was lucky, to pet an opening when ia mixup* occurred at the home turn. When the mishap occurred Embark and Ready Money Were possibilities, but when Single Lee tipped , out they and others, had 16 be cheeked in an attempt to keep out'of trouble. Saddle or Sulky It might be worth while.for the committee of . the Gore Racing Club to consider .the idea of converting the slow class events run in harness into saddle races. The big fields seen at Gore and other meetings are frequently of unwieldy size, and the trouble is accentuated by the amount of room required for the sulkies. It is difficult to get very large fields in fair line at a start, and it seems almost inevitable that some will break up and wreck the chances of others. The risk of such, trouble would be greatly reduced by running them in saddle. It woyld also tend,, as in the past, to bring riders into the game who have become too heavy to ride on the flat. The Draw at New. Brighton For the Improvers’ Handicap at New Brighton to-day the draw for barrier positions is as' follows:—1 Anteros, 2 'Travis Pringle, 3 Great Harvester, 4 Isabel Patch, 5 Bellerina, 6 Gaynor, 7 Ohinemutu, 8 Renegade, 9 Airflow. In the Belfast Handicap the following positions have been drawn: —1 Rollicking Wave, 2 Arglois, 3 Harvestin, 4 Levity, 5 Rongomai, 6 Don Wrack,' 7 Our Fay, 8 Paragon, 9 Sans Peur, 10 Waving Corn, 11 Doris Derby, 12 Chiming Day, 13 Stella Derby, 14 Betty Jinks, 15 Vanity Fair, 16 Daddy Locanda, 17 Silk Bonny, 18 Rewai, 19 Tollgate, 20 Marie Louise, 21 Lynley de Oro, 22 Cam Dillon. A Bit LuckyRoyal Guy went a solid race when he won at Gore, as had to work big way through a fairly big field, but was perhaps lucky to escape trouble when Single Lee upset at the home turn. He was also lucky that Gold Salute lost ground at the start New Arrival at Epsom A two-year-old pacer by Frank Worthy from Evelyn Locanda, owned by Mr E. H. Cucksay, has arrived at Epsom from Tirau and . (says “Abydos”) was much admired by a number of owners and breeders. He is a fine big colt and in many ways resembles his dam. who was a well-bred and well-performed mare. Evelvu. dam of Evelyn Locanda, was by Rothschild from Imperialism, who also produced good ones in Emmeline, Aileen, and Emilius. The youngster will probably race as Lyn Worthy.
