An account of the proceedings of a conference of the Queensland branch of the Australian Institue of International Affairs is published as “Australian Foreign Policy, 1934.” (Melbourne Uni; versity Press, Is fid.) Its chief contents are the texts of the addresses, which were delivered by Mr F. H. Stewart, M.P. (“Australian Commercial/Representation Abroad ”), Professor A. C. V. Melbourne (“A Foreign Policy for Australia”), Mr Malcolm MacDonald (on aspects of Imperial relations), and Dr W. G. Goddard (“ Cultural Relations Between Australia and Oriental Countries”). '. The mid-December number of West contains seven long fiction contributions, the authors including Jaines B. Hendryx, Max Brand, and W. C. Tuttle.

Museum MSS. Bernard Shaw has given the letters written to him by Ellen Terry to the British Museum. Other interesting additions to the museum include some autograph notes by Shelley on a play by Thomas Jefferson Hogg, and part of the manuscript of Hogg’s Life of Shelley. The Northclifle Prize

The Northcliffe Prize, which is awarded in England for the best French novel of the year—it is a reciprocal award to the Femina Vie Heureuse Prize —is to be presented in future by the publishing house of Heinemann, and will be known as the Heinemann Prize.

Wodehouse at Work Mr P. G. Wodehouse has been telling a London journalist how he gets his work dope. He declares that he sits down in a chair, itlnces his feet comfortably on another chair, has a notebook, pencil, matches, pipe and tobacco handy, and selects his chief character. Then, in his own words, “ I keep on sitting till _ I have discovered what happened to him the time he forgot his wife’s birthday or on the afternoon he went to Wembley. In other words, the story grows out of the character.”
