The newly-elected members of the House of Keys of the Isle ot Man took the oath of allegiance and swore to use their best endeavour “ to maintain the ancient laws and customs of the isle, justly and truly deliver their opinion,' and do right in all matters without favour or affection, affinity or consanguinity, love or fear, reward or gain, or for any hope thereof, and in all things deal uprightly and justly and do wrong to no man.” This form of oath has been in force since 1765, when the island was sold to the British Crown.
