SALVATION ARMY .V Various sections of the Salvation Army Corps at Port Chalmers combined ou Thursday evening to give a hearty welcome to Major and Mrs Atherfold, who recently arrived in Dunedin, the major having been appointed chancellor of the South Division, in place of Major Nelson, Major Balle, the officer commanding the Port Chalmers district, was chairman, and introduced the guests of the evening. Bister C. Porter led in prayer, and !3ister M. Williamson read a portion of. Scrip, ture. The Home League made the evening the occasion of its reopening for the year. The secretary (Mrs G. Taylor), on behalf of the women of this branch of the work, extended a warm welcome te Mrs Major Atherfold. Bro. E. Hodge and Sister Ferguson rendered a pleasing duet. Sister Hodge represented the outposts, and assured Major and Mrh Atherfold that whenever they came into the district they would find a loyal baud of helpers.

. J&Bjor and Mrs Balle sang a duet en* titled “I’m Glad I’m in the Army.” Bro, T. Anderson, representing the corpe generally, made the guests feel very much at home by his sincere remarks. Un Major Balle contributed the solo “Walk* ipg With Jesus.” Much interest was evidenced as Mra Atherfold addressed the meeting in reply to what had been said by the varioua speakers. Her future visits will bo welcomed. by many friends. Major Atherfold replied to the word* of welcome, and inspired one and all to have faith in the power of God. He brought the meeting to a close with a verse of a hymn and prayer, » A basket social had been arranged, which made a suitable conclusion of a happy' gathering. '
