PALMERSTON Concert A successful concert was held on Thursday evening under the leadership of Signor and Signora Stella (Dunedin). Part of the proceeds are to be given to the Palmerston Horticultural Society. Songs were presented by Signor and Signora Stella, Mesdames Burrow and Cousins, and Mr Snell, Miss N. Moodie recited, and a violin solo was provided by Mrs C. Appleby. A pianoforte duet was played by the Misses Pringle, _ A dance followed, the music being supplied by the Black Cat Orchestra. Dramatic Club The annual meeting of the Palmerston Dramatic Club was held in the Anglican Sunday School Hall. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year: President, Mrs C. F. Smith; vice-presi-dent, Mr J. A, Jull; stage manager, Mr P. O’Reilly; secretary, Mr H, Rhodes; committee—Mr Cook, Miss Capstick, Miss Pickett, Miss Moodie, Mr Coekburn. It was decided that a selection committee be appointed to select the casts for plays, and that group producers for individual plays be selected by the committee. Weather The dry weather is still prevailing, many farmers are being forced to cart water for their stock. Conditions are now cooler, however. Amateur Athletics A large number of entries, including those of New Zealand and Otago champions, has been received for the afternoon sports meeting to be held in the Domain on Saturday. School Committee The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti School Committee was held in the school, Mr Andrew Fell presiding. A letter was received from the Education Board stating that the department had made a grant for a new school at Waikouaiti. — Received. The matter of holding the school picnic was discussed, and it was decided that the Mayor should be asked to call a meeting of the residents of the district to discuss the matter of combining with the committee in the holding of the picnic. Water Supply

An official visit was paid to the intake dam of the Waikouaiti water supply on Thursday, and the position was found to be disturbing, as there is no storage, the upper dam being empty and the small intake going immediately into consumption. The council is making arrangements for residents to use several old wells in the borough.
