Mr T. Somerville left for Wellington on Saturday to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation.

Messrs J. Sawers, A. Wellsted and H. Valentine, of the Railways Department's head office staff, left Dunedin for Wellington on Saturday.

Mr A. M. Satterthwaite returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Mr H. M. Mackay was a passenger by Saturday's Express'en route to Wellington. * ,

Mr F. Sherwood left for Wellington on Saturday. "' Mr Frank Hurley, general manager of the Mutual Assurance Association, left Dunedin by the mid-day express on Saturday, en rpute for Auckland. Mr Bruce Smith, who met with a serious accident on New Year's Eve and has been five weeks in the Ranfurly Hospital, returned to Dunedin on Saturday. Mr A. E. Simmons, South Island representative for Messrs Salmond and Spraggon, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to the company's Melbourne branch. He will sail by the Wanganella from Wellington on February 15. Mr N. H. Kennedy, recently manager of the Kosy Theatre, Palmerstpn North, who has been transferred in a similar capacity to the Mayfair Theatre, South Dunedin, commenced his new duties on Saturday. •' Count Akira Wantanabe, Tokio, Japan, who was head of the Japanese Boy Scout delegation to the Jamboree in Australia, arrived in Wellington la9t week in the course of a tour of the Dominion. Members of the Customs staff in Dunedin met on Friday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr E. C. Collett, ldcker, who is retiring on superannuation, after 22 years' service. Mr J. E. Nichol, collector, made the,presentation, consisting of a travelling rug and a Doultoh teapot and stand for Mrs Collett, and several of the officers endorsed the collector's remarks in .appreciation of Mr Collett's work.
