RELIGION TO-DAY

AN INTERESTING LECTURE. Mr E. M. Blaiklock, lecturer in classics at the Auckland University College, who has been invited to Dunedin by the Bible League, addressed a large and interested gathering at Hanover Street Baptist hurch yesterday on the subject " Is Religion Played Out?" The lecturer said that the argument that the Bible was a finally described authority was shown by history, archaeology, philology, and the sciences where the. vast advances of recent years had done much to establish, faith in the reliability of the record on which religion rested. That the world had outgrown a need for religion was shown to be an assertion equally false, recent utterances of leaders of the world's thought and destiny being fraught with a new anxiety on this Very score. Mr Blaiklock asserted that religion, linked to an eternal Christ, could not be played out, but what was played out more than ever before in this age was the way so many practise religion. There was a crying need for deeper devotion. Mr Blaiklock's subject to-night will be "The Glory of Chrißt."
