SWIMMING

ZENITH CLUB'S CARNIVAL, A programme of unusual interest has been drawn up for the Zenith Swimming Club's carnival, which will be held at .the Y.M.C A. Batha to-morrow evening. Otago's speediest swimmers have lent in" record entries, and brilliant and 'exciting swimming. seems to be assured. Entries have been received not only from the : - local clubs Kiwi, Dunedin, Zenith, St.' Clair, St. Kilda, Kaikorai, and University—but also from clubs as far distant as Oamaru, Milton, and South Canterbury. In the 50 Yards Dash event 68 of Otago's fastest sprinters will face the starter, and in the 160 Yards Four-a-side Relay event 26 teams will contest the issue. Particular interest should attach to the Zenith Club's Novice Handicap, in which no fewer than 32 swimmers, most of whom have commenced swimming this saaeon, will prove the value of their coaching. The ladies have been catered for by the inclusion in the programme of a Ladies' 80 Yards Dual Relay, as well as the usual ladies' events, and here, again, the racing should be keen. Novelty will be the keynote of the life-saving contest, as an attempt has been made to five spectators something which is more ike the real thing than the usual lifesating events. Another item of particular interest to swimmers will be a demonstration of; the " Coachaphone." .as used in the training of advanced swimming by the coach of the Zenith Swimming Club. This "Coachaphone" is the only one in use in the southern hemisphere, and hag proved to be of immense value during the short time it has been tied, fi--xf.yx-.-i
