MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING;, The monthly meeting, of the Maniototo County Council wasrheld at-Naseby and was attended by Crs H. W. Davis (chairman), W. Howell, R. Scott, E. Morgan, N. Nicolson, T. A. Lowis.'j. B. M'Gill, P. Aitken, and Thomas HalL ', RANGER'S REPORT. The ranger (Mr G. Graham) presented the following report:—There were 13 head of cattle impounded, while 12 head of cattle were released before reaching the pound. Fees collected: Pound £1 16s, ranging 9s; total, £2 ss.—Received. HEALTH INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The health inspector (Dr F. Varney) reported that for the period ended November 30, 21 sanitary inspections had been carried out and five requisitions served. Six samples had been taken for analysis. The following localities had been visited:—Oturehua, Ranfurly, Hyde, Kyeburn, , Waipiata and St. Bathans. —Received. TRAFFIC INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The traffic inspector (Mr P. Laughton) reported that for the period ended January 21 the regular inspection, had been carried out. in Waitaki, Waihemo and Waikouaiti Counties. —Received. ' CORRESPONDENCE. The commissioner of Crown lands, Dmicdin, wrote regarding forest reserves in the county which it was proposed, should be vested in the council for tree planting purposes.—lt was decided that application should be made to. have the reserves vested in the council and that the commissioner of Crown lands should be advised that it would be necessary to have one chain on the western boundary of section 24, block XIV, dedicated as, a public road as it had been used as such for the past 30 years or more. . • FINANCE COMMITTEE. Cr Davis stated that, the Finance Committee recommended that where possible all works should be carried out by contract. —Accounts amountiug to £1422 9s 7d were passed for payment. ; GENERAL. Cr Howell stated that Messrs Brown Bros, were, through mining operations, endangering the safety of the road near the county pound, and the engineer was directed to notify them that they must safeguard the public road, and failing their taking adequate steps to do so the engineer to have authority to make application to the Warden's Court for the issue of an injunction preventing them, or any other miners, from working within one chain of any road formation. NEW OFFICES T RANFURLY. Cr Davis moved and Cr Howell seconded (pro forma) that the council take the steps necessary to erect new offices at Ranfurly and that the cost of these should be a charge against the general revenue of the county. Cr Aitken spoke in favour of the motion ind in doing so stressed the advantages to ratepayers and others by having the whole of the county staff domiciled in Ranfurly. Cr Scott stated that he would not support the motion as he considered that the time was not opportune. Cr Nicolson stated that he would op•pose the motion. Cr Lowis stated that he was not in favour of the resolution and required further information. It was practically the eve of an election and it would not be right for the council to proceed with the project. Crs Hall, Morgan and Howell expressed the opinion that the time was not opportune and they could not therefore support the resolution at the present time.

On the motion being.put to the meeting, the voting was: For two, against seven.—The motion was declared lost.
