MANCHESTER UNITY

The Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge held its fortnightly meeting at. Port Chalmers, N.G. Bro. S. Macdonald presiding over a large attendance of members. The members took part in several interesting discussions relating to the social side of the Order. Arrangements are being taken in hand for carrying out the annual Qhristmas tree function, when. 1 the children of members are entertained. The programme for the .evening was supplied by the Valley members and provided entertainment of a high order. The following contributed:— Bros. Robertson,, Hogg, MTate, Henderson, Bauchop, Pond and Swann. The Loyal Roxburgh Lodge was in mourning at its last meeting out of respect to the memory of its late trustee, P.G. Bro, Richard George, and a motion of sympathy with his widow and relatives was carried iii the usual manner. Bro. George had been a member of the Roxburgh Lodge for 44 years. For part of that period he filled the office of treasurer, and for the past 23 years had been a trustee of the lodge. He was a regular attender at meetings and was keenly interested in the work of the Order. The final official visit of the year to the Princess Mary Lodge on Tuesday evening proved a successful function. The total attendance was 180. The N.G., Sis. E. Longworth, presided, and extended a welcome to the visiting brethren. The District Executive was represented by P.G.M. Bro. A. Hart, P.D.G.M. Bro. J. D. Cameron and P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Sligo, the latter, who recently returned to Dunedin after attending the A.M.C. in London, being warmly greeted. Bro. Sligo, in the course of his reply, gave a short and interesting resume of his journey, stating that he would later forward a written report to lodges. Following business matters, <the evening was devoted to harmony, Princess Mary and visiting brethren contributing items. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Centenary Lodge was held on Monday evening, N.G., Bro. Preston presiding over a fair muster of members and visiting brethren. A cordial .welcome was extended to P.P.G.M. ffro. A. Sligo and P.D.G.M. Bro. J. D. Cameron. In the course of his response to the toast of the District Executive. Bro. Sligo spoke interestingly on the proceedings at the A.M.C. held in London, and was thanked at the conclusion of his talk. P.D.G.M. Bro. Cameron reported, on the work of the executive. The Loyal Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge met at Lawrence on Tuesday evening, when there was an excellent attendance of members, a number of brethren being also present from the Waitahuna district. P.G. Bro. Gray occupied the chair. The inward correspondence was lengthy and was responsible for some discussion. The district account was passed for payment. A letter was received from P.G. Bro. C. Hunt, one of the Dunedin Hospital visitors, reporting on a member of the lodge at present an inmate, and the thanks of the lodge were extended to Bro. Hunt for his attentions to. this member. The committee appointed to go into the question of suitably commemoratin' 1 the anniversary of the”lodge presented its report, which was approved. Nominations were opened for office and adjourned until next meeting. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Caversham Lodge was held on Wednesday evening, P.G. Bro. Miller presiding over a good muster of members. Correspondence included notification of a visit to city lodges from members of Invercargill lodges. The Euchre Committee, through whose efforts a new piano had been presented to the lodge, reported that it had been decided to continue the evenings. Following the business meeting, the ladies were entertained at a card tournament, in which the prize winners were: Mrs Andrews 1, Mrs Wood 2, Bros. Campbell and Isaac annexing the men’s trophies. The Loyal Caversham Juvenile Lodge held a parents’ evening. A piano solo was contributed by Sis, Douglass, who also officiated for a community sing. Recitations were contributed by Miss J. Wilden • and Bro. Wright, followed by a costume dance by Miss June Isaac. Vocal solos were contributed by Mrs

Millar. P.D.G.M. Bro. Cameron presented to P.G.’s Bros. W. M'Kenzie and A. Brosnan framed certificates as a reward for their services while passing through the chairs, the recipients returning thanks. P.G. Bro. J. H. List delivered an interesting talk to the juveniles on the ideals of Oddfellowship, following which he handed to N.G. Bro. Grev the Initiation Shield, which was won by the lodge in the recent competition, and congratulated members on their excellent performance.
