THE SHARE MARKET SUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE The following is a list of the business transacted on the Dunedin Stock Exchange during the past week: —

A fair volume of business was trans-. acted on the Dunedin Stock Exchange during'the past week, and the demand for good investment securities remained fiT ßank of-New Zealands were in good demand at £2 9s 6d, but sellers required threepence above this figure. Business was done in Reserve Banks at £6 12s yd, £6 12s 3d, and'£6 12s, the market closing with a seller - asking £6 12s 3d, .and no buyers forward. . .... There was a alight easing in the inquiry for National Insurances, buyers best offer being £1 Is sd, while sellers required £1 Is lid. A transaction took place earlier in the week at £1 ls ,9d. New Zealand Insurances were inquired for at. £3 9s 6d,.but sellers were not interested. A sale at £3 10s 6d was, reported a few days earlier! South British Insurances were disposed of at £4 12s, the market closing with a buyer offering £4 11s 9d, and no sellers quoting. Kaitangata Coals were offered for sale at £1 Is TOd, but buyers did nofrespond. Westports. were dealt-in at,l9s 9d, the closing buying 'offer .remaining at the lame figure, while sellers ■ asked £1 os_3d. Buyers of New Zealand Guarantee Corporations were to giye ; 5a sa, but sellers were reticent. . Parcels of paid-up. New Zealand Refrigeratings were disposed of at £1 Os 6d and £1 Os sd, the closing buying- and selling quotations being £1 Os 3d ; and £1 Os 7d respectively. The contributing issue was also the subject of business at 10s, buyers offering the- same figure at the last call, while sellers required twopence There was a slightly easier demand lor Dominion Fertilisers, which were inquired for at fl Os 9d. Sellers required £1 1* 6d. Mount Lyells eased noticeably, the best buying offer when the market closed, being 17s 6d. No sellers came forward. Kaiapoi Woollen ' ordinary shares were disposed of at prices ranging from 15s 6d to 16s, the final selling quotation of 16a 3d failing to attract buyers. Five parcel* of New Zealand Paper Mills were disposed of afe £3, 14s 9d, , the market closing..with buyers, offering £1 14s 3d and sellers asking £1 15s. Wilsons Cements were dealt in at f 1 14s 6d and £1 T4s 7d, cum dividend, a closing selling quotation of £T 14s 9d receiving no further response. -- _ Parcels, of New Zealand Breweries found buyers at £2 10a and £2 9s 6d* the final buying and selling quotations being £2 fls 3d and £2 10s respectively. One sale of Bell-Hoopers at 4«d and 12 at 5d were recorded during the period, the final quotationg being 4Jd (buyers) and 5d (sellers). Bendigo Goldhghts were also the subject of business at lp2d, the closing buying and selling quotations showing a. margin of 2d either way -on that figure. Big Rivers were offered for sale at Is 74d, but buyers stood .firm at Is 6d. Buyers of Gillespie’s Beach shares were, prepared to give Is 7d, but sellers would not take less than Is 84a. The proportion of reserves to liabilities is 47.40 per cent. Short loans are quoted at S per cent.; three months bills at 13-32 per cent. BUSIER FACTORIES During the last 12 months there has been a large increase in the number of hands employed in factories in NewSouth Wales. The Minister of Labour, Mr J. Dunninghnm, stated recently that 200 factories in the Sydney metropolitan area now employed 62,284 persons, compared with. 37,749 when the present Government took office two years and a-half ago. .
