Control of the traffic in armaments was the subject of significant statements by the Prime Minister. ' Speaking at Southampton, he declared that the- British Government stood firmly in favour of control by license and international extension of that system. He added: “We are going to try to get that done by Geneva as quickly as possible.” In- Washingtoni Mr Cordell Hull said it - was the desire of the American Government to “sound out” the various Powers on the subject of the inclusion of -an international agreement for the restriction and control of the traffic in armaments and munitions. The Prime Minister’s speech was delivered in the constituency where he made his first parliamentary speech nearly 40 years ago. Several of his early supporters were present.
