MONTHLY MEETING i The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held in the board room on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs R. T. Kirk (president, in the chair), F. J. Conn, H. C. Campbell, Joseph Mosley, A. Campbell, George Koss, L. C. Hazlett, J. Mitchell, W. 0. M'Kellar, A. Johnson, T. D. Dalziel, E. F. Duthie, D. Ireland, J. Hellyer, D. Craighead, J. M. Fraser, J. Allison, D. M. Reid, H. M. Driver, W. S. Thomson, and D. Andrew. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr E, M. North, member for Palmerston and Waihemo, on the death of his father (Mr H, North), who was a prominent Australian and New Zealand Friesian breeder, and with the relatives of Mr R. A. Kempshell, an old and respected member of the society arid judge at a number of shows. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS.

Finance.—A meeting of the Finance Committee was .held on October 1, when the following business waa dealt with:— Last month’s accounts, amounting to £lB 16s Od, were passed for payment. It was resolved that the gate charges for the forthcoming Summer Show be two shillings for, gentlemen and one shilling for ladies, and that the car parking charges be reduced from 2a to Is (members free). The statement of receipts and expenditure submitted in connection with the recent horse parade was noted with approval. The Finance Committee also met on October 15, when accounts amounting to £335 Cs 6d were passed for payment. Grounds and Buildings Committee. — The Grounds and Buildings Committee met at Tahuna Park on September 22, when it was resolved to call tenders for repairs to the looseboxes according to the specifications drawn out by Mr J. Mitchell. At a further meeting of this committee held on October 1 Mr J. R. Slemint’s tender was accepted, and it was also recommended that timber be procured by the caretaker to make necessary hurdles and gates for sheep yards. The Grounds and Buildings Committee also met at Tahuna Park on October 15, when the repairs to the looseboxes were inspected. It was recommended that the small looseboxes should be renovated, double gates placed at the end of the sheep races, and another cattle wash erected in time for the show next month. The sub-committee’s reports were, adopted. SOUTHERN DISTRICT COUNCIL. The secretary reported that the following Otago members had been nominated for the Southern District Council of, the Royal Agricultural Society:— Messrs George Ross (Palmerston), John Preston (Flag Swamp), S. Roberts, thanking the committee for its letter of sympathy to himself and family on the death of Sir John Roberts, who was the last hou. life governor of the society. From Sir Cecil Day (official secretary to the Governor-General), conveying his Excellency’s regret that owing to engagements in Wellington on November 20 and 21 he would be unable to attend the Summer Show. From Professor C. S. Peren (Massey Agricultural College), who is also president of the Ryeland Sheep Society, advising his intention of attending the Summer Show. A vote of appreciation was passed to the Forbury Park Trotting Club, which advised a donation of £5 5s as special prizes for the Summer Show pony trots. The secretary of the Ryeland Sheep Society wrote enclosing a complimentary volume of the Ryeland Flock Book, which was acknowledged with thanks. From C. V. Dayus, M.R.C.V.S., intimating that all stallions inspected at the parade passed the examination. From R. P. Williams (lion, secretary of the Mayor’s Relief B Depot, St. Kilda), applying for the use of Tahuna Park for a Christmas cheer picnic to be given to the children of the unemployed of St. Kilda. —Granted. From Mr A. H. O’Keefe, protesting against the proposal to shift the loading bank from Royal crescent to Victoria road. —Received.

From the Dunedin city tramways manager, advising the usual tram service would be run both days of the Summer Show. The secretary of the Clydesdale Horse Society wrote acknowledging receipt of a pass to the meeting of breeders and members held at Tahuna Park, and advising that the matter would be placed before his council at the next meeting. APPRECIATION. On the motion of the president, a special vote of thanks was passed to Mr K. Clark (manager of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company), who, in the interest of the export lamb competition, made a special trip to Ranfurly to attend a meeting of the Maniototo A. and P. Society to finalise matters for the field day at Burnside on December 8. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were nominated and elected:—Messrs George Nimmo (Outram), John Mathesou (R.D., Outram), John MTherson (Gladstone road, Mosgiel), Richard Bruce (Brighton), J. S. Blackie (Mosgiel), Robert Sim (Green Island Bush), J. Trengrove (Excelsior Hotel, Dunedin), and K. Russel) (Burnside) as a junior member. GENERAL. Mr J. Hellyer’s tender for the supply of grass for the Summer Show was accepted. Pig Classes at the Summer Show.—ln order that there should be no ambiguity in regard to the class for sow (any age), it was resolved that the catalogue should read “ Sow, any age, dry, or to farrow.”
