10 THE EDITOB. Sib, —May I trespass ou your space again in order to reply to “ Safety, whose letter is published in this morning’s issue of the Daily Times? There is no disposition on the part or anyone to crave for additional “ speed on the Christchurch-lnvercargill section. Ihere can well be adjustments of the time-table, however, to permit of the cutting down of the journey time. These could be effected as follows:—(1) Expedite the completion of bridge strengthening operations at permit of “ schedule ” speeds oyer such lengthy structures ns the Kakaia, Ashburton, Rangitata, Waitaki railway bridges. (At present the speed is restricted to 20 miles an hour.) (2) Cut out such stops as Addington, Dmisandel, Waiareka. Maheno, Seacliff, Waianakarua, Puketer.aki and Waikouaiti by insisting that the slow trains arc in their respective sidings at the time of the express passing. (3) Eliminate lengthy refreshment room stoppages by reversion to the dining car, (4) Do away with double heading trains by using the up-to-date “K ” locomotive. —I am, etc., Ex-Railway Officer.
