DUKE’S SON IN HIS STALL SERVING HUNGRY TAXIMEN. “‘Coffee and saveloy? Certainly, sir,’ said Lord Edward Montagu, son of the Duke of Manchester, passing me a cup and a plate,” said a correspondent of the‘Daily Express at Maidenhead, near London, recently. Bright lights and the aroma of coffee had attracted the correspondent to the spot. The coffee stall, mounted on the chassis of a motor car in the grounds of the Riviera Hotel, was busy, A young man, keen-eyed and active, was serving customers. Beside him was an assistant, Miss Peggy Bevan, stoking the little fire, Lord Edward Montagu, ex-Canadian farmer, explorer, and adventurer, grinned cheerfully. “I built this stall myself in three weeks,” he said, “and broke my finger nails in the process. I started work last night with less than a pound, and made over £4 in the first 24 hours. But I had to work all night. Miss Bevan and I worked right through the night, and I did not go to bed until 2 o’clock in the afternoon. I suppose you might think that I would get a gang here from Mayfair, but that is not so. I get dozens of taxi drivers, who have to wait around here for hours while their employers are yisiting the various clubs.” One of Lord Edward’s first customers was e Frenchwoman, a close friend of his, but most of his customers were strangers. “This is just a beginning,” he said. “I hope to get a chain of stalls going. A couple of weeks ago I was going to join the French Foreign Legion, but I 'think this is better.
