Great Expectations The unquiet art of book publicity reaches a new high level in a folder just issued by the London publishers of a popular thriller writer. On the outside page the eye is assaulted by the following legend in big type:—“ Dumas, Edgar Wallace, Oppenbeim, Baroness • Orczy, H. G. Wells, William le Queux, Conan Doyle, and Jules Verne. What a Galaxy of Stars!!! and yet . . . ’’and on turning overleaf—“ Eminent Reviewers Have compared the work of Dennis Wheatley to all of these famous Authors in his first year as Novelist and Historian.” The folder proceeds to quote favourable excerpts from reviews, its purpose being to announce a new novel from Mr Wheatley’s versatile ppn.
