OBITUARY
MRS ELLEN LEE The death of Mrs Ellen Cooke Lee, widow of Mr Robert Lee, late of Anderson’s Bay and Queenstown, occurred at her residence, “ Luztgarth,” Queenstown, on Tuesday night. She had been in ill-health for a considerable period. Mrs Lee was born at Kookhope, Northumberland, England, where her earlier years were spent. She married, and, in 1881, she accompanied her husband to New Zealand, Mr Lee acquired land in the Taieri and on Otago Peninsula after his arrival, and took up residence at Mornington. After a time Mr and Mrs Lee moved to Anderson’s Bay, where they lived until 1903. Then, for health reasons, they went to Queenstown, being accompanied by the two younger members of the family. Seven years later, Mr Lee, who had purchased “ Threepwood,” Lake Hayes, went to reside there. He died at the close of the following year. Eventually Mrs Lee then returned to Queenstown. Mrs Lee was a woman of a particularly’fine character. She took a keen interest in the welfare of St. Peter’s, Queenstown. Mrs Lee is survived by a family of three sons and one daughter. These are Messrs G. A. Lee (Auckland), Robert Lee (Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin), Leo Lee (“Threepwood”), Lake Hayes, and Mrs W. A. Anderson, Queenstown. Another son, William, lost his life in an explosion in the Kaitangata mine ,in 1900. A sister, Miss M. Johnston, who has lived with Mrs Lee for many years, also survives her. The interment took place in the Queenstown Cemetery yesterday.
