CONTROL OF PRODUCTION
THE AMERICAN PROGRAMME FAILURE CONCEDED WASHINGTON, October 17. (Received Oct. 18, at 9 p.m.) The Secretary of Agriculture (Mr H. A. Wallace) conceded to-night the failure of the agricultural adjustment administration’s maize and hog .production control programme, which provides Government benefits to farmers contracting to reduce their maize acreage and limit hog production. Already more than 70,000,000 dollars have been expended this year. Mr Wallace revealed the apparent disapproval of the programme by farmers, of whom less than 50 per cent, of the total eligible under the plan voted in the referendum to determine the desirability of continuing the programme in 1935.
