SALE OF SUPERPHOSPHATE
PRICE-CUTTING COMPETITION EFFECT OEvRECENT. REGULATION. (Per United- Pbess Association) . / AUCKLAND, October 12. \ Superphosphate is now available to farmers at £3 16s a ton as a result of reselling competition between the dairy companies and the merchants. It is stated that there is no dispute between the manufacturers, whose prices to the trade remain the same, £4 a ton less discount. The price-catting competition in the trade has, according to a statement made, been brought about by the terms of the Order-in-Council issued in July. This regulation fixed the maximum price . in the North Island at £4 a ton, and s also provided conditions to discounts and commissions which now. pre- - vent the manufacturers from fixing the retail price to the farmer.. Under these conditions, the dairy, companies bave been able to cut the prices by foregoing their trading margin, and the move has been followed by some merchants. A meeting will be held next week to discuss the position.
