AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT TRADE MERGER ANNOUNCED The amalgamation of two English 'companies, Messrs John Mackintosh and Sons, Ltd., and Messrs A. J! Caley and. Son, Ltd, with the Phoenix Company, Ltd., Dunedin,'ls now announced as, the result of a recent visit to England by the local manager of the Phoenix Company, Mr St. Clair Ferguson. The manufacturing of the well-known products of the English companies, as well as of the numerous lines made by the Phoenix Company, will be carried on at the local company's works in Dunedin. The arrangement provides, in addition, for the sole distribution of these products throughout New Zealand by the new combination. At the present time, under an arrangement with the parent firm of Messrs John Mackintosh and Sons, Ltd., of Halifax, Yorkshire, England, their specialties are produced in all the chief countries of Europe and in America and Australia. The arrangement now made for their production in New Zealand completes the circle of the world. Messrs A. J. Caley and Son's confectionery goods are already well known in New Zealand, and now that they are to have direct representation the*?demand for their products may be expected to increase. The combination will be known as Mackintosh, Caley, Phoenix Company. Arrangements have been completed for the installation at Dunedin of the latest machinery in use by the English firms.
