HIGH PRAISE FOR VON CRAMM a . “WORLD’S BEST AMATEUR” NEW YORK, October 10. (Received Oct. 11, at 10 p.m.) Misses Round, Lyle and Dearman and Mr George Hughes'arrived to-day by the liner Majestic, en route to participate in lawn tennis matches in Australia. They will be joined in California by Perry, Wilde, Miss Betty Nuthall and other British players. Tilden also arrived by the Majestic. He startled interviewers by the declaration that von Cranim was the world’s-best amateur, “not on records, but simply on ability. I would select the players in this order—Vori Cramm, Crawford, Austin, Perry, Wood, M‘Grath, Boussus, Allison, Shields, and Menzel.”
