As a mark of the esteem in which he \vas held, Mr Tennent was presented with a fireside chair and a handsome set of carvers. In acknowledging the expressions of, goodwill and the gifts of which he was the recipient, Mr Tennent referred with pleasure to his long association with the department in Otago, and emphasised the fact that throughout hia service his relations with other divisions had always been characterised by the greatest cordiality. He had enjoyed working with them and was leaving the southern provinces with a good deal of regret. , After the presentation afternoon tea was dispensed and a very pleasant function was brought to a close with musical honours.
