The jewellery collection of the lute Ladv Barber, of Culham Court, Henley-on-Thames, was hurriedly withdrawn from sale at Christie’s recently. There was a' great wealth of diamonds, including a two-row bracelet and a head ornament, which were expected to bring a large sum at auction. A day or two before the sale the executors found a memorandum by the late Lady Barber in which it was specified how the jewels—about 40 lots--should be disposed of among the beneficiaries. The auctioneer announced to the expectant company the reason for the abandonment of the sale.
