WHOLESALE PRICES
THE AVERAGE FOR AUGUST (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 12. (Received Sept. 13, at 5.5 p.m.) The average of wholesale prices in August showed a rise of 2.1 per cent, compared with July and 3.1 per cent, over August of last year, the respective index numbers being 88.5, 86.7, and 85.8. Food prices increased by GJ per cent, from the previous month and the index for the cereal group was the highest recorded since August, 1930. Industrial materials, however, continued the downward trend which began in March.
