UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
LOCAL ACTIVITIES GROUPS TO REPORT. Group 604 will report for work with the Reserves Department at 8 am. today at the Woodhaugh Gardens. MAYOR’S RELIEF FUND The Mayor acknowledges with thanks receipt of the sum of £IOO from the community Singing Committee, making £2OO contributed by that means to the Mayor’s Relief Fund this season. The sings have been more popular than ever, and the response to the appeals have been larger this season than in any previous year. CONCERT AT MIDDLEMARCH A successful concert and dance, conducted by the Sutton relief workers, was held at Middlemarch on August 31. Receipts totalled £9 7s, made up of a donation for the hire of the hall, £3 12s 6d; receipts at the door, £5 12s; and a donation, 2s 6d. The expenses were £4 7s, comprising hire of halt, £2 10s; placard material, 3s; bus fares, Gs Gd: and sundries, £1 7s Gd. The credit balance of £5 was disbursed as follows:—.Middlemarch School (for prizes).' £1; Sutton School (for prizes), £1; Middlemarch Hospital, £1; Middlemarch Brass Band, £1: Sutton Lawn Tennis Club, £l. HOBSONVILLE AIR BASE “GETTING FIT" ALLOWANCE FOR MEN. (Pek United Pbess Association.) ' AUCKLAND, September 13. Following repeated disputes over the conditions of relief work at the Hobsonville air base, advice has been received from the Minister of Public Wooks (Mr J. Bitchener) that work will be resumed next Monday, and , that a “ getting fit ” allowance of 12 per cent, on the present co-operative contract prices will be paid to the men for the fii'st month, and 6 per cent, for the second month. About 10p men are required for the job.
