CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

The remaining teams to take part in the New Zealand Cross-country Championship, to be held at Wingatui to-morrow, arrived last evening, being met at the Railway Station by the president (Mt E. L. Macassey) and other officials of the Otago Centre. The following provinces have entered teams:—Auckland, Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay, West Coast (North Island), Canterbury, and Otago. The competition for both the Individual Championship and Teams’ Race should be close. Otago and West Coast are popular choice for the winning team, and J. G. Barnes (Otago), C. Weller (West Coast), W. A. Pnllar (Otago), and C. Px-osser '(Wellington) are regarded as likely individual winners. Followers of cross-country running will learn with regret that at the last moment J. W. Savidan (Auckland) found that he was unable to come to Dunedin to defend hig title. .HANDICAPS FOR PRELIMINARY RACE.
