OBITUARY

CAPTAIN COLIN F. POST Captain Colin Francis Post, who died at Wellington on September 7, at th» age of 76 years, came from London in May, 1803, in command of the Union Steam Ship Company’s Rotokino. In 1898 he entered the service of the New Zealand’ Government, after having been marine superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Company. When there was danger of trouble with some Maoris in the north, Captain Post commanded the Government steamer Hinemoa, which conveyed troops to Hokianga. He took the Federal escort to Sydney for the celebrations in connection with the foundation of the Commonwealth. In 1900 he made two voyages to Samoa, with despatches for - the admiralty, and also during the war between Mataafa and Malictoa conveyed natives for safety from'Savaii and Upoln to Apia. Captain Post was in command of the steamer in which Mr E. J. Seddon made a trip to Tonga, Fiji, and the Savage Islands. At the time of the trouble with the Hindu people at Fiji in 1920 Captain Post took New ■ troop* there, and remained for three months in the Cook group. Later he made two voyages to Samoa witn Lord Liverpool when the latter, was Governor-General of New Zealand. . :T, .
