THE ALBURY TRAGEDY REWARD FOR INFORMATION -, v. .V • SYDNEY, -September 12. The Government has decided to offer £250 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of. the person responsible .for the murder of a young woman" near Albury. ; With the forehead battered, the legs and part of. the trunk charred, but still clothed in white and yellow; pyjamas, the body of a girl of about 20 years of age was found in a culvert near Albury. TRAGEDY AT FREMANTLE FREMANTLE, September 12. Carmelo Mentisano, aged 36, an Italian, was found dying in a cottage on the waterfront with deep gashes in his head. One arm was almost severed and the other arm and legs were deeply gashed in at least 20 places. Concetta Ciaquinta, aged 30, who lives with her husband in the same house as the dead man, was subsequently arrested on a charge of wilfully .murdering Mentisano. THE VITAL STATISTICS CANBERRA, September 12. (Received Sept. 12, at 11 p.m.) The Commonwealth Statistician reports that although Australia s birth rate in 1933 of 16.76 per 1000 of population was the lowest ever recorded, the marriages in the same year were 46,595, the highest since 1929. The deaths of children under one year, namely 4357, were the lowest, with (he exception of. New Zealand, in the world. Australia’s population increase in 1933 was 52,395.
